Canoes made from bottles, or in short about the latest plastic recycling technology

22.09.2019

Hardly anyone could imagine that the plastic bottles of mineral water or milk may eventually serve as a repeated fluid reservoir, or even turn into a kayak or canoe. New plastic recycling technology presented by researchers from Queen’s University of Belfast.

Today, the volume of plastic manufactured in the factories of the planet more than 300 million tons annually. Needless to say, how many tons of plastic out of this figure are in the dumps? To somehow restrain our planet from the accumulation of plastic waste, researchers have come up with a new method for plastic processing, which will be obtained from the resulting material of the water tank, sporting goods, or to make a canoe.

A new method of rotational molding allows to process huge volumes of plastic. The processing process will be as follows:

  1. Plastic waste will be separated into granules using the newly patented shock recycling technology;
  2. Next, the resultant granules undergo grinding to a powder state;
  3. The resulting powder will be heated at a temperature of up to 200 degrees Celsius in special chambers;
  4. Finally, the heated mass will be cooled, resulting in a new material that will be immediately ready for use.

The only problem faced by scientists is the need to find the optimal combination of different types of plastics to achieve the most appropriate ratio of strength and flexibility of the resulting material.
